Commissioner Erin Campbell

Erin Campbell was appointed by Governor Matt Mead as the new State Geologist in November 2017 and reappointed by Governor Gordon in 2019.  In this position, Ms. Campbell automatically sits as a WOGCC Commissioner, but her expertise brings  a wealth of knowledge.

With a BA Major in Geology and a Minor in Mathematics from Occidental College, Campbell attended the University of Wyoming to obtain her PHD in Geology, specializing in Structural Geology with a secondary emphasis in Geophysics.

Upon graduation, she worked four years at Chevron in Louisiana and California returning to Wyoming to teach at UW in the Geology and Geophysics Department.  She was also the Director of UW Geology Field Camp during her tenure there.  During her tenure at UW, Campbell did research in structural geology, geomechanics, CO2 sequestration, and established the Cretaceous Tight Oil Consortium work in the Powder River Basin.

At the Wyoming State Geological Survey she worked as Manager of Energy and Miner Resources Division before her appointment as the State Geologist.  Along with raising two teenagers, Campbell loves to camp and fish in the summer and cross country ski, quilt and do weaving in the winter.
